Corrections Policy

If something on this site is wrong, tell us and we will fix it. Factual corrections to a listing are made as soon as we can confirm the right answer, usually within two business days, and we do not require you to be the business owner to report one.

How to report a problem

  • Every business listing has a “report incorrect information” link.
  • Anything else on the site, including guides, can be reported through the contact page.
  • Business owners who want ongoing control of a listing can claim it, but claiming is not required to get an error fixed.

Telling us what the correct information is, and where we can confirm it, gets it fixed considerably faster.

What happens next

  • We confirm it independently. Usually from the business’s own website or a phone call. We do not simply swap one unverified claim for another.
  • We correct the listing and update its “last checked” date.
  • We record what changed, when, and what we relied on.
  • If we cannot confirm the correct value, we remove the disputed detail rather than leave something we know may be wrong.

Closures

A business reported as closed is marked temporarily closed or permanently closed once confirmed, and a permanently closed listing stops being indexable by search engines. We do not silently delete closed businesses straight away: someone searching for a place that has shut is better served by being told it has shut than by a page that no longer exists.

Corrections to guides and articles

Where a correction materially changes what an article said, we note it at the foot of the piece with the date, rather than editing quietly. Small fixes such as typographical errors or a moved link are made without a note. We do not remove an article to make an error disappear.

What is not a correction

Disagreeing with an editorial opinion is not a factual error, and a business asking to be removed from a list it dislikes is not a correction request. We are glad to hear the disagreement, and our ranking methodology sets out how those decisions get made. Requests to remove accurate information, including from advertisers, are declined.

Removing a listing entirely

A verified owner can ask for their business to be removed and we will remove it. We may still record that the business exists and declined a listing, so it does not simply get re-added by the next person researching the category.
