Where they cluster. The Arts District has 12, the highest concentration downtown: Bestia, Damian, Manuela, Rossoblu, Pizzeria Bianco, Everson Royce Bar, Wurstküche, Pizzanista!, Zinc Cafe & Market, Blue Bottle Coffee, Arts District Brewing Company and Endorffeine. The Financial District has 6, skewing toward the high end and the top of buildings — 71Above, Perch, Water Grill, Redbird. The Historic Core has 5 and is anchored by Grand Central Market, plus Bottega Louie, Golden Gopher and Sonoratown. Chinatown has 4, including Yang Chow and Phoenix Bakery. Little Tokyo has Marugame Monzo and Fugetsu-Do, a long-standing Little Tokyo confectioner.

How to browse. For a sit-down dinner with a reservation, look at the Arts District first. For lunch on foot with no plan, go to Grand Central Market in the Historic Core. For a view, the Financial District towers. Several listings here are single-purpose trips rather than browsing stops — Philippe The Original, Fugetsu-Do, Phoenix Bakery and Fisherman’s Outlet each draw people who came for one specific thing.
